University Students turning flats into eco-friendly haven

New Zealand Christchurch, Canterbury University students have been recognised for transforming their ordinary flat into an eco-friendly haven.

They have been honoured for having the most “sustainable and inventive” flat. This eco-friendly group of five come from different parts of the world – Bangladesh, Canada, England, Malaysia and New Zealand – but they have been united by one common passion – environemnet sustainability. The university ran a sustainabitlity lecture each week to teach the students new ways of making eco-improvements to their flats.

The wining group's initiatives include building a glass house out of recycled materials, installing a rainwater tank and system which recycles their washing machine water for the garden. They even keep their own vegetable garden, compost heap, and worm farm.

And in times of celebration this group of students brew their own cider for the celebratory drinks
